UWANG ADAHAS: A Living National Treasure

Uwang Ahadas is a musician from Lamitan, Basilan and he from is from the Yakan clan, a group of people who places huge significance when it comes to instrumental music.

As they believe that music is an offering to a higher being for it helps agricultural cycle and social realms. And with Uwang’s contribution, Uwang perfected the discipline in his art and became more knowledgeable when it comes to his music. His own clan gave him a gift which ties him into their music tradition, and he used it to teach his children how to play their Yakan traditional instruments. Uwang won the National Living Treasure Award in the year 2000.
